If a person's name, give the last name first, as in Jefferson, Thomas. If a company name, give the usual form. You may have to try common abbreviated forms. "Wild cards" are not supported, but you can give only the first portion. For example, Jeffer might find not only Jeffers, Maxwell, but also Jefferson, Thomas, and Jeffery Hubcaps and Croissants.

Searching by Case Number:

A full case number is o:yyttnnnnn where o is the divisional office code, yy is the two-digit year of filing, tt is the case type, and nnnnn the number. An example case number would be 2:96cv12345. If you are not sure of the divisional office code or case type, you may leave them off, e.g. 96-12345.
